Watershed Organisation Trust is pleased to share a case study of 'Sattechiwadi' included as one of the best practices published in the Ministry of Environment and Forest, GOI National Report 2012 submitted to UNCCD. It gives an account of the activities implemented in Sattechiwadi (a hamlet of Hivargaon) Maharashtra and how specific land degradation problems were addressed.
In response to adverse impacts of deficiencies in water governance at ground level and climate risks, WOTR, in collaboration with Hindustan Unilever Foundation (HUF) has initiated the Water Stewardship project in 106 villages of Maharashtra and Telangana states. Village youth interested in overall water management are working as Jalsevaks for the project. In the month of May 2016, a competition was held to increase the water harvesting potential in the above mentioned villages for them.
On 13th September 2016, an Award Ceremony was organized at CSRD (Social Work College) Ahmednagar to appreciate the Jalsevaks for motivating the villagers to undertake this task. They were felicitated by the hands of Shri. Anil Kawade , Collector, Ahmednagar.
The event was also attended by Marcella D’souza, our Executive Director, Shri Pradeep Purandare- Sr. Professor at Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI), Shri. Jadhav- Project Coordinator, Integrated Water and Management Programme ( IWMP)- Ahmednagar, Shri. Goski, Sr. Geologist,Ground Water Surveys And Development Agency (GSDA) at Ahmednagar.
