We are happy to share an Q&A session with Aradhana Yaduvanshi, researcher with WOTR. Here, Dr. Aradhana Yaduvanshi talks about the opportunity to work with Prof. Mark New and Dr. Modathir Zaroug at the African Climate Development Initiative (ACDI).
The article ‘Innovating for water security: Ferrocement Checkdams in Jalna District, Maharashtra’ gives an account of WOTR’s resourcefulness in building a ferrocement checkdam. In Adgaon village of Bhokdardan WOTR, with multiple discussions with community members about how to deal with the issue of water scarcity, came up with a solution of building ferrocement checkdam. This innovative form of low-cost checkdam construction technology was applied to reduce the cost as well as amount of labour for its construction. This checkdam is a first of its kind implemented by WOTR in Maharashtra. The article also narrates how money saved after building ferrocement checkdam was used for other water conservation measures. Rejuvenation of the old well was one such initiative.
