Sowing Seeds Of Empowerment
(English, VCD, 24 mins)
Sowing Seeds of Empowerment is a film is based in Nandurbar and Dhule region, famous for its red chillies; it is a district with highest tribal population in Maharashtra. WOTR’s sister concern Sampada works along with the women here to encourage their savings. The women self help group (SHGs) procure and distribute seeds to the women. A kitchen garden in the backyard is the key to self reliance, saving as well as nutrition and health. Women tasted self reliance. Women in Runmali were divided along caste lines.
Once they got together, they challenged all old beliefs, including that banking was a man’s job. They supported each other in giving loans in sickness to extending credit for a beauty parlours enterprise. Once inspired, the survival became a success story.
