Dr. Venkateswarlu retired as Vice Chancellor of the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani. Prior to that he was the Director of the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA).
He has served over 40 years as a Research and Administrative Manager in the Institutes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). He has expertise in Climate Change and Soil Fertility Management and conceptualised and implemented one of the largest Network project on Climate Change in the Indian Agriculture Sector (NICRA). He is familiar with different aspects of climate change and development, adaptation and mitigation strategies, low carbon development pathways, accessing climate resilient technologies in agriculture and rural development and has implemented and co-ordinated international research projects funded by the USDA, DFID, World Bank, ACIAR and ADB, etc., in Natural Resource Management and livelihood security as well as projects involving NGOs and the private sector.
Dr. Vekateswarlu has served in different expert committees within and outside the Government to prepare, implement, approve, monitor and evaluate climate change related projects in India. He is also associated with expert committees of the Ministry of Agriculture, NITI Ayog, DBT, DST, NABARD etc. He also has extensive international exposure and participation in several international fora.
He has published more than 250 original research papers in reputed journals, 20 books of international standards and holds one patent. He has also received several Academic Distinctions and Awards.
