Role: Technical Expert (Civil /Agriculture- Engineer / Rural Development Context)

Summary

Provide technical guidance, planning, and Supervision for project activities related to, soil and water conservation, Drinking water and community-based interventions.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Planning

  • Prepare technical designs for Various watershed structures, Water Hervesting Structures, Drinking water and irrigation systems, and land development.
  • Develop annual and seasonal work plans based on field requirements.

Implementation Support

  • Supervise field activities and ensure work is executed as per technical standards.
  • Verify measurements, layouts, and quality of structures.

Farmer & Community Engagement

  • Guide for Conducting training and awareness sessions for farmers on Water management and improved agricultural practices.
  • Support formation and strengthening of farmer groups and community institutions.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track physical and financial progress of activities.
  • Prepare progress reports, utilization reports, and technical documentation.

Quality Control

  • Ensure compliance with project guidelines and specifications.

Coordination

  • Liaise with project teams, government departments, and Funding Agency other NGOs, and stakeholders.

Data Management

  • Maintain records of field data, beneficiary details, and technical estimates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering,
  • 3–7 years of relevant field experience (watershed, soil conservation, irrigation, or rural development projects).

  • Conduct review of literature to identify intervention on climate adaptive agriculture practices and support in their demonstration at field level and further upscale.
  • To collaborate with different teams, universities, research institutes to undertake various studies. Support in undertaking extension works from research institutes such as ICRISAT, state universities, CRIDA etc., at field level.
  • Contribute to research papers and articles preferably in peer review journals and publications

Position Overview

The WOTR Centre for Resilience Studies (W-CReS), initiated in 2007 and established in 2016, is WOTR’s eminent and autonomous applied research unit. 

Employing a trans-disciplinary approach, W-CReS conducts multi-stakeholder, applied research on critical, ground-level issues impacting society. A snapshot of what you will be working on at WOTR?

As the Manager of Monitoring and Evaluation, you will play a crucial role in leading the organization’s M&E department, working closely with the Executive Director, Programme Directors, and department heads to drive the organization’s mission forward. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that projects are developed using the highest quality evidence, while also capturing and communicating high-quality findings through the use of cutting-edge monitoring and evaluation techniques.

In order to achieve this, you will establish a robust monitoring and evaluation system throughout the organization, develop impact metrics for short-, mid-, and long-term goals, and lead the design of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and tools for various programmes. Collaboration and partnership with other departments will be essential to the success of these efforts.

Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of progress and results/impact reports for WOTR’s funders, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements. This critical role will be based in Pune, with periodic travel to other locations as needed.

As Manager – Monitoring & Evaluation you will:

  • Create a strong monitoring and evaluation framework and related tools at the programme and organizational levels, with an emphasis on measuring performance across several levers such as sustainability, scalability, efficiency, cost per beneficiary, and so on
  • Evaluate the success of all our core programmes and generate periodic reports for internal use and funder reporting
  • Analyse the results of such evaluations and communicate your conclusions with the management team
  • Manage data collection and reporting of state information for the Annual Report
  • Ensure timely implementation of monitoring and evaluation projects, with a strong emphasis on implementation, quality assurance, systems, and technology – including identifying data sources, designing feedback and assessment tools, collating data across multiple channels, conducting correlation and validity checks, identifying clear impact indicators, analysing / interpreting data, and reporting findings (which can be used effectively to inform practitioners, funders and policy makers)
  • Based on impact analysis, assist in identifying bottlenecks and making recommendations for additions and changes

Who are we looking for?

WOTR is on the lookout for a Sr. Officer (FPO) to promote Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) and establish the required systems and processes for internal governance and management—production, marketing, finance, MIS, and statutory compliance—to sustain the organization and provide significant benefit to its members.

As Sr. Officer (FPO) you will:

  • Generate awareness and mobilize farmers, organize them, and incorporate them into the FPO.
  • Establish systems and processes for updating MIS and accounts, conducting statutory audits, and managing finance.
  • Facilitate processes and develop systems for regular board meetings, ensuring statutory compliance and diligently following other governance procedures based on best practices.
  • Prepare business development proposals and detailed roadmaps for FPOs.
  • Build linkages with stakeholders relevant to the FPO ecosystem.

A snapshot of what you will be working on at WOTR

You will be responsible for developing strategies, planning, and implementing different aspects of production and productivity improvement in farm allied (Agriculture and horticulture, Dairy, Poultry, Goatery, etc.) and non-farm activities. You will be accountable for all farm & and non-farm activities, skill development initiatives, capacity-building, training, demonstrations and monitoring economic improvement.

As Lead-Livelihoods you will:

  • Build strong relationships and further extension of project activities with relevant stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for developing Entrepreneurship; preparation of business plans, and sustainability plans; looking into the viability of enterprises and capacity building of all the human resources placed at the state level, regional level, cluster level, and field level
  • Ensure collection, updating, and validation of relevant database of the target population, as required to assess and measure the improvements in production aspects of targeted agriculture and allied commodities as well as developing the value chains of different commodities

Join W-CReS

The WOTR Centre for Resilience Studies (W-CReS), initiated in 2007 and established in 2016, is WOTR’s eminent and autonomous applied research unit.

Employing a trans-disciplinary approach, W-CReS conducts multi-stakeholder, applied research on critical, ground-level issues impacting society. W-CReS’ mission is to unravel the causal relationships and drivers of behavioural change, devise and test potent strategies for transformation, and contribute to policy enhancement and capacity building.

W-CreS works closely with civil society agencies, businesses, local, state and federal governments to achieve its mission. It has formal MOUs with leading publicly funded research and scientific institutions in India, such as the ICAR, IMD, and CRIDA. Its robust research efforts are attested to by over 200 published research papers, impact studies and socio-economic baseline studies of project villages.

At W-CReS you will

  • Support a team for Action / applied research projects
  • Work in close coordination with the trans-disciplinary team including practitioners
  • Develop training modules for communities and practitioners
  • Write research publications in peer reviewed journals, report writing and engage in novel ways to communicate research
  • Step out into the field and in our areas of intervention
  • Conduct Data collection and Data Analysis
  • Support the organisation with other needs whenever required

 

Apply if you have:

– A PhD or Master’s with minimum four years’ research experience (interdisciplinary/ action research) in one of the following

  • Environmental science (Not Pollution) Majorly deals with ecosystems and Landscape Ecology
  • Ecology/ Forestry/ Natural Resource Management/Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

-The passion to work toward sustainable development through ecosystem regeneration and its management

-The openness to working with a trans-disciplinary team

-The willingness to learn and adopt new technologies in your outreach to communities and in related applied/action research

-The commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of rural communities and to achieving the targets India has set w.r.t. the SDGs, LDN, CBD and others

Here is a brief snapshot of the role:

As Field Officer, you will play a crucial role in facilitating agricultural development and enhancing agricultural productivity. Working closely with farmers, you will provide valuable insights on modern farming techniques and promote sustainable farming practices to them.

At WOTR you will:

  • Assist in implementation of agriculture related projects and monitoring of the same
  • Implement crop demonstrations, collect data from demo plots and send it for further analysis as per the project need
  • Conduct periodical farmer field schools and keep records
  • Assist in data collection and analysis of various agricultural interventions and research studies
  • Prepare physical and financial reports of projects.
  • Prepare reports, produce written outputs of implementation work and its outcomes
  • Support the conduct of trainings & development of manuals
  • Perform any other team responsibilities / duties as assigned time to time

You will be reporting to the Project Manager.

Apply if you have:

  • A B.Sc/ M.Sc with Agricultural related specialization (Preferably Entomology, Agronomy, Soil Science)
  • Comfortable using MS office.
  • Fluency in Marathi and Hindi
  • Good writing and communication skills in English would be an advantage
