In continuation with a previous blog on “Role of Mobile Apps for Climate Smart Agro-Advisory in Agriculture“, there is a need to provide farmers with a dynamic decision support system that is tailored to their specific farm/crops and provides them weather-responsive advisories across key aspects of agricultural operations. This will help them mitigate weather-induced risks, reduce losses and costs of production, increase productivity and improve incomes. In order to address this need, the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) has developed FarmPrecise – a mobile application. “FarmPrecise” is a Mobile App that provides information on Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA) techniques and methods for 26 crops and more, real-time weather information, 5-day weather forecast, early storm warning, crop and soil specific precise fertilizer requirement calculator, it’s appropriate time of application, integrated pest and disease management, irrigation management, and market prices of different crops in nearby markets. FarmPrecise mobile application is also trying to give information of news, events, and schemes of government related to agriculture.
Currently, the “FarmPrecise” android mobile App has been developed in English, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, and Odia (Oriya) languages and can be downloaded from the “Google Play Store”. “FarmPrecise” has a simple user interface and additional “Forum” tab connects the farmer directly to the experts of WOTR where the technical people answers to farmer ‘queries. At present, to assess the impact with regards to the usefulness of agricultural advisories, challenges faced and difficulties encountered while using the agro-advisories, changes expected in the agricultural advice, and the invaluable suggestions for better improvements, we have collected feedback from farmers of various locations in Maharashtra and Telangana States during the Kharif and Rabi season of 2020-21. Apart from the detailed questionnaire, we have recorded feedback from some random farmers on the following key questions.
- Did the farm income increase due to the use of the FarmPrecise App? What do you think about that?
- Did the farm input cost reduced due to the use of the FarmPrecise App? What do you think about that?
- Do you think the information of Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA) is done by using the FarmPrecise App?
- User friendliness of the FarmPrecise App?
- In your opinion, what are the improvements needed in the FarmPrecise App and in any other content of it?

“मी गेल्या दोन वर्षांपेक्षा अधिक काळापासून मी “FarmPrecise” हे मोबाइलला अँप्लिकेशन वापरत असून शेतीच्या उत्पादनात वाढ नक्कीच झाली आहे. समजा कपाशीच्या बाबतीत दिला जाणारा सल्ला हा अत्यंत उपयोगी आहे कारण मी जैविक कीटनाशकाचा वापर प्रथम केला आणि आवश्यक असेल तेव्हाच रासायनिक कीटकनाशकाकडे गेलो त्यामुळे खर्च कमी होऊन उत्पादन वाढले. हे मोबाइल अँप्लिकेशन अद्यावत सल्ला देत आहे. त्यामुळे पिकावर कोणती औषधी केव्हा वापरायची हे आम्हाला समजते. हे मोबाइल अँप्लिकेशन वापरण्यास अत्यंत सोपे आहे कारण सर्व माहिती होम पेजला असून एका क्लिक मध्ये आपल्याल्या सर्व माहिती भरता येते. सध्या हे मोबाइल अँप्लिकेशन आम्हाला खूप महत्वाची माहिती देत आहे. विशेषतः आम्हाला हवामान अंदाज खूप मदत करतो, त्यानुसार आम्हाला शेतीतील कामाचे नियोजन करता येते. या मोबाइलला अँप्लिकेशन मध्ये आम्हाला सुधारणा हवी आहे असं नाही पण प्रश्न विचारण्यासाठी तयार केलेली सिस्टिम थोडी सोपी करा (पिकाचे नाव, श्रेणी या गोष्टी नसतील तरी चालेल). पिकाचा फोटो काढल्यानंतर आम्हाला डायरेक्ट प्रश्न विचारता यायला हवा.”
“I have been using the “FarmPrecise” mobile application for more than two years and it definitely contributed in the growth of agricultural production. For instance, the advice given for cotton crop is highly helpful as I used organic pesticide for the first time and used chemical pesticides sparingly when it was absolutely necessary. Thus reducing the input cost with an increase in the production. This mobile application has been giving up-to-date information. So we understand what organic formulations to be applied on the crop. This mobile application is extremely easy to navigate because all the information is on the home page and all the information can be filled in with just one click. Currently, this App is providing us very important information. Especially weather forecast helps us a lot to plan our agriculture activities. I personally don’t want many changes in the App, however the system in which we ask questions could be made a bit simpler (by making the entry of crop name and category optional). We should be able to ask questions directly after taking a photo of the crop.”

“FarmPrecise” मोबईल अँप्लिकेशन वापरल्याने शेतीचे उत्पादन बऱ्यापैकी वाढले आहे. त्यांचे महत्वाचे कारण मिळणारी अद्यावत माहिती, जीवामृत, अमृतपाणी, दशपर्णी, आणि गांडूळखत याचा वापर हे आहे. याच्या वापरामुळे रासायनिक खते आणि कीटकनाशके यावरील खर्च पण कमी झाला आहे. एकंदरीत या मोबाइल अँप्लिकेशनच्या वापरामुळे शेतीसाठी लागणार खर्च खूप कमी झाला आहे. हे अद्यावत माहित देत आहे पण आमच्या भागात मोबईल नेटवर्क कमी असल्याने हे अँप्लिकेशन ऑफलाईन पण माहिती देईल असं काही करता येईल का अशी सुधारणा आम्हाला हवी आहे.”
“Using FarmPrecise” mobile application, the agriculture production has fairly increased. The important reasons are the use of updated information, Jeevamrut, Amrutpani, Dashparni Ark, and Vermicompost. With the use of these organic formulations, the cost of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is reduced significantly. Overall the input cost of agriculture has been reduced considerably. Actually, we would be happy if the App could give us the latest information in an offline mode as well to poor mobile connectivity in our area.”

“मी २०१२ पासून शेती करत असून “FarmPrecise” हे मोबाइल अँप गेल्या दोन वर्षांपासून वापरत आहे. अँपच्या वापरामुळे पिकाचे उत्पादन वाढले असून रासायनिक खतांवरील खर्च कमी झाला आहे याचे मुख्य कारण असे आहे कि पिकाच्या अवस्थेनुसार कोणती खते व औषधे केव्हा वापरायची याची योग्य माहिती आम्हाला मिळू लागली. त्याशिवाय तज्ञ लोकांचे मार्गदर्शन रोज मिळू लागले. हे मोबाईल अँप आम्हाला अद्यावत माहिती देते कारण कोणतेही पीक काढणीला आले आहे आणि त्या काळातील अचूक हवामान अंदाज यामुळे पिकाची होणारी नासाडी थांबली आहे. आता आम्ही योग्य वेळी पिकाची काढणी करत आहोत. हे अँप वापरण्यास खूप सुलभ आहे कारण पीक लागवडीपासून ते काढणीपर्यंत खत आणि कीड व्यवस्थापन आणि बाजारभाव याची सर्व माहिती आम्हाला एकाच ठिकाणी भेटते. आम्हाला दररोजचा अचूक स्थानिक बाजारभाव याची माहिती रोज मिळत राहिली तर आम्ही योग्यवेळी पिकाची काढणी करू आणि अधिक नफा मिळवू असे वाटते.”
“I am doing farming since 2012 and using the “FarmPrecise” mobile App since last two years. The crop production has increased and the cost of chemical fertilizers is reduced due to the use of the mobile App. This was made possible by the right information of application of fertilizers and pesticides according to the growing stages of the crops. Apart from that, we received the guidance from experts on a daily basis. This mobile App gives us updated information such as the exact weather forecast that guides us to harvest the crop at the appropriate time period avoiding the potential crop loss due to unfavourable weather conditions. The mobile App is very easy to use because all the information on manure application, pest management and market prices is available at one place. If we get information about the local market prices, we will harvest the crop accordingly and get more profits.”

“FarmPrecise” हे अँप वापरल्याने आमच्या शेतीच्या उत्पादनात वाढ झालेली आहे. त्याचे कारण असे आहे कि हे अँपमुळे आम्हाला शेतीतील वेगवेगळ्या पिकांची माहिती मिळत असून त्याची शेतात अंमलबजावणी कधी करायची याची रोज माहिती मिळते. याशिवाय हवामान विषयक माहितीमुळे आम्हाला शेतीतील कामांचे योग्य नियोजन करता येते. फार्म डायरीमुळे सर्व खर्च आणि उत्पादन यांची ठिकाणी नोंद करून ठेवता येते. अँपमुळे रासायनिक खते आणि कीटकनाशके यावरील खर्च कमी झाला आहे कारण आम्हाला अमृतपाणी, दशपर्णी अर्क, गांडूळखत आणि शेणखत याविषयी योग्य माहिती मिळाली. विशेषतः कोविड १९ च्या काळात आम्हाला सर्व माहिती घर बसल्या मिळाली. सध्या हे अँप आम्हाला योग्य माहिती देत असून यात होणारे चांगले बदल आम्हाला नक्कीच आवडतील. मी स्वतः सर्व शेतकऱ्यांना सांगू इच्छिते कि हे अँप सर्वानी वापरावे. यामुळे नक्कीच फायदा होईल.
“FarmPrecise” App has increased by our agricultural production. The reason is that this App continuously gives us information about different crops and how to grow them. Apart from this, weather information helps us to plan our agricultural work. A ‘farm diary’ section stores information on all expenses and production in one place. The cost of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has been reduced because we got the appropriate information about Amrutpani, Dashparni ark, Vermicompost, and farm yard manure (FYM). Especially during COVID-19 pandemic, we got all the information in the comfort of our own home. Currently, this App is giving us the right information and we welcome the forthcoming changes in it for better. I want to tell all the farmers, that they should use this App to derive many benefits.
