Ecosystem Restoration for Land Degradation Neutrality: The Economic Valuation of Watershed Development in Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Western Maharashtra

This policy brief is an outcome of a study conducted in eastern Madhya Pradesh and western Maharashtra, where participatory watershed development was implemented. The impacts of participatory watershed development, i.e. sustainable land management practices implemented from ridge-to-valley in the study villages on soil erosion, soil organic carbon, land productivity dynamics and land use/land cover (LULC) changes, has been assessed. In addition, the impacts observed on the provisioning ecosystem services of cropping intensity, crop productivity, household water availability, distress migration and agricultural benefit.
